Dr. William Carl, President of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary states that one of the characteristics of a healthy congregation is to 'read the Bible every day'. Dr. Carl has created a 3 year schedule where you can read one chapter each day, and by the end of year 3 you have read the entire Bible!
Because 'read the Bible' is our 2nd mark of discipleship we have taken on this exciting journey as a congregation. It is an amazing thing to know that the chapter we are reading each day is also being read by other disciples in our congregation and around the country and around the world!
After sending an all church email yesterday I have set up this blog so everyone may add comments to show how meaningful this journey will be for us.
The schedule is listed in our bulletins, our newsletter and our website: http://www.salisburyfirstpres.org/
Enjoy the journey.

Thanks for doing this Jim.
I find that having a version of the Bible on my phone makes this a really easy thing to accomplish. Whenever I am out and about, I can bring up the app and occupy otherwise "empty" minutes with this journey through the scripture.
However, I have to admit, it's going to be rough in Leviticus.
I find it interesting that Paul chose to write about the principles of Christianity rather than specific issues the churches may have been facing. As there was no satelitte or internet, did Paul have information as to how the churches were doing at the time he wrote the letters?
